You know those annoying fake “this is credit card services” scam calls that everyone gets? Every once in a while, I answer them and ask to be removed from their calling list even though it never works because these are all scammers anyway. Today, the person on the other end of the call decided to mess with me.
Today, I got the usual “this is credit card services, there’s no problem with your account, but you need to speak to us ASAP, press 9 to speak to a representative” robocall. I pressed 9 to speak to a representative and then when the person answered, I politely asked to be removed from their calling list. The person I got on the other end of this call then pretended to either not hear me, not speak English, or some combination thereof, and repeatedly asked me,
“Wait, what? You want to stand on my tall dicks?”
I salute you, heroic zero-fucks-given scam call center employee. I can only hope this is your subtle way of infiltrating the scam telemarketing call center in order to bring it down from within. But I’d settle for getting your employer to stop calling me.

I once loaded a virtual machine full of zip bombs disguised as financial files and tax returns and let one of those “Microsoft Tech Support” scammers remote in. I’ve never received another call.

I always press 9, then put the phone down to waste as much of the scammers time as possible. It’s surprising how long they will ask “hello? hello?” before hanging up.

Back when internet sound boards were a thing, the kindergarten cop one was the best for these guys.

I told a guy to fuck off one morning. He called back to tell me how rude I was, so i laughed over the phone and told him to fuck off again. No call back after that.

I found out pretty recently that asking to be removed from the list does not do anything. In fact it actually can make things worse by confirming there is a live caller on the other end. You aren’t supposed to get these calls in the US if you are on the do not call list, but call centers out of the country don’t give a damn. There is a guy that made a script to robo call the call centers on youtube, pretty hilarious really.

Yeah I really should just ignore these calls. It’s like I can’t help but answer a number I don’t recognize. I should be thinking, “screw answering this number I don’t recognize, if they know me they’ll leave a message.”

I’m with you there. I’ve gotten better at ignoring calls from out of state, but they are getting smarter with the scramblers and such that I’m getting phone calls from numbers that I recognize only to realize that it is just my number with slight changes. Also doesn’t help when you are waiting for important calls.
There really needs to be an app that can sort these.

I have a Maryland number but live in Wisconsin. A lot of times the scramblers will put a Maryland or DC area code on there to make it seem like it’s a “local” call but the only time I get calls from Maryland or DC are my family out that way, and I have all of them saved as contacts.
The worst ones are the fake charities for things like veterans or breast cancer. I get way too many of those, fake credit cards, or fake extended car warranties. The charity ones are evil though.
